As a Sport Wushu has been developed in Armenia since early 1970.
The Traditional Wushu Federation of Armenia (TWF of Armenia) was founded in 1993.
From September 1, 1998 the Federation has been a member of Armenian National Olympic Committee.

In November 1997 it has become a member of International Wushu Federation (IWUF). The Federation unifies about 5000 sportsmen all over the Republic.

Annually the Federation organizes 4 contests within the Republican Championships, including the Championships of Force Structures (Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs and National Security etc.).

Mr. Sergh Sargisyan - Secretary of the Council of National Security and Armenian Defense Minister is the Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Honored President of the Traditional Wushu Federation of Armenia.

In 1990 visiting Chinese professionals worked side by side with the trainers of the Traditional Wushu Federation within 6 months.

In 1997 Robert Vardumyan as sportsman and coach studied 3 months in Shenjan Wushu Academy (Peoples Republic of China).
In November 1997 Armenian Wushu team participated in 4th and 5th World Championships in Rome and Hong Kong. Every year since 1998 the Federation traditionally participated on Festival and International Championships in Baltimore, USA.

The team won 3 gold and 4 bronze medals among 26 participating countries in 1998, 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze among 29 countries in 1999 and 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals in 2000. At these events our team consisted of 4, 3 and 4 athletes respectively
